Greets friends! Here is one of George Gershwin’s most famous compositions, “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess. This is an easy tune to learn, and a hard one to master. Everyone can kind of play it! There is a pretty serious range of versions of this one, from John Coltrane’s to Miles Davis, to Ella & Louis and on down the line. Wes Montgomery’s song “Four on Six” is based on the Summertime chord progression. It is subject to many different interpretations. I gave is a 12/8 blues feel which was very influenced feel wise by my mentor MIke Longo’s big band chart of his own tune, “Blue Gil”.
